About Choros

Choros is a semi-professional chamber choir based in rural North Oxfordshire. The choir was formed in 1993 by its conductor, Janet Lincé, and is noted for its innovative programming, high standard of performance, and commitment to local as well as established venues. The choir's main performing areas are Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and surrounding counties, but it also performs in London.

Choros wants to encourage as wide a range of people as possible to listen to and enjoy choral music of all kinds. For this reason, the choir performs a very diverse repertoire, and varies its presentation to suit its audience. Performances have included Bach's Mass in B Minor and St John Passion with period instruments, Spem in alium by Tallis, a children's concert on the theme of animals, works by Jonathan Harvey and James MacMillan and newly-commissioned works.

Singing With Choros

The members of Choros come from a wide area and meet on an irregular basis for between two and five rehearsals per concert. The number of singers varies between 16 and 30+ according to the programme, and all are experienced choristers with voices that are characterful yet blend well together. Good sight-reading and musicianship is essential, as is a commitment to the aims of the choir and the ability to be part of a team. If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact Janet Lincé on lince@choros.org to arrange an audition.

Choros and the Community

Choros supports a number of local organizations and charities and can be booked to perform in concerts, festivals, corporate events and weddings. We can also arrange concerts on your behalf. Fees for the choir range from £250-£1500, depending on the number of singers required, the music to be performed and the distance to be travelled. Fees for other musicians (eg organist, orchestral players) are in addition to this. Charities and local organizations we have recently supported include Deddington Library Appeal, Botley Alzheimers Home and The Katharine House Hospice. For more information, contact us at info@choros.org

Choral Workshops

Through our educational arm Choirworks! we organize choral workshops, vocal training and singing days, both locally in North Oxfordshire and by invitation from choirs across Southern England. Recent open workshops have covered Rachmaninov's Vespers, Duruflé's Requiem, Padilla's Lamentations and Bach's Magnificat. Choirs we have worked with include Crouch End Festival Chorus, Newbury Choral Society, Hackney Singers, and Beckenham Chorale. To join our mailing list for open workshops or to arrange a workshop for your choir please email choirworks@choros.org
